An accomplished author, L. Jay Mitchell has created several residential self-development programs that have served more than 10,000 individuals. In 2007, L. Jay Mitchell founded West Virginia-based Greenbriers Academy for Girls, which offers therapeutic programming to support adolescent girls' mental and emotional well-being.

At Greenbrier, residents benefit from a holistic and personalized treatment approach. Each girl has the support of a treatment team that includes a therapist, an academic advisor, and two residential mentors, all of whom work together in a cohesive treatment plan. In addition to overseeing the resident’s daily schedule, the treatment team ensures residents attend all daily classes and activities. If a problem arises, they can intervene quickly to help reestablish a routine.

The treatment team follows each girl’s academic and behavioral progress, making changes or adjustments when necessary. Team members also help plan home visits, family phone calls, and off-campus activities. The treatment team conducts weekly meetings with the family to ensure parents have a clear understanding of their daughter’s progress.
