There is an alarming number of social media users who are teenagers. According to statistics, 92 percent of teens have daily online activity related to social media. Meanwhile, 77 percent of parents feel their teens get seriously distracted by social media during family time.

Notably so, heavy social media usage influences the brain. When a person experiences something rewarding while viewing social media, neurons in the principal dopamine-producing areas in the brain are activated, and dopamine levels rise, which are akin to users of any other addictive substance. Therefore, the brain receives a reward signal and associates social media usage with positive reinforcement, allowing the person, especially a teenager, to consume social media again and again until it becomes an unhealthy habit.
